CETV Philippines proudly broadcasted the prestigious 40th Luna Awards live and exclusive on its Facebook and YouTube channels on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The grand event was held at the IBG-KAL Theater in UP Diliman, Quezon City, and was a resounding success, drawing significant online viewership and rave reviews.
Hosted by the esteemed Karla Henry-Ammann, Miss Earth 2008, the awards night featured captivating performances from John Arcenas and Hazel Faith, adding to the evening’s glamour and excitement. Director Jose “Joey” Javier-Reyes delivered a stirring keynote speech, emphasizing the vital role of Filipino films in contemporary society.
The night was a celebration of cinematic excellence, with standout winners including Maricel Soriano for Best Actress in “In His Mother’s Eyes” and Roderick Paulate for Best Actor in the same film. “GomBurZa” was honored as Best Picture and garnered four additional awards for Best Director (Pepe Diokno), Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.
Special awards were also bestowed to notable personalities: Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte received the Manuel de Leon Award for Exemplary Service, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. was honored with the Golden Reel Award, and Liza Diño-Seguerra was awarded the Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ) Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lamberto Avellana Memorial Award was posthumously given to the late screenwriter and director Armando Lao.
