Chelsea Manalo on Overcoming Bullying and Embracing Her Identity

Chelsea Manalo, crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2024, shares her inspiring story of overcoming bullying and building confidence in the latest issue of Metro. Growing up, Chelsea faced relentless bullying due to her unique appearance, being half-Filipina and half-American-African with curly hair.

She recalls how difficult it was to be misunderstood and how it often led her to tears. However, instead of letting the negativity consume her, Chelsea chose to focus on the love and support of her family and friends.

She emphasizes the importance of not giving bullies the reaction they seek, stating, “Bullies are never okay. What you can do is just give them that silent treatment or not pay attention to that because that is not who you are.”

Chelsea also reveals what drove her to compete in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant despite the fierce competition. She describes herself as an independent woman who thrives on taking risks.
