Quezon City Ensures La Loma Lechon ASF-Free

Quezon City’s Veterinary Department confirmed on August 15 that no cases of ASF or other diseases have been detected in pigs brought into the city, ensuring that the roasted pigs sold in La Loma are safe for consumption.

Inspector Paul Patinio emphasized that the department conducts round-the-clock inspections, thoroughly examining the quality and smell of the pigs, as well as verifying their documentation to ensure safety. He also noted that so far, no issues have been reported.

Lechon vendors in La Loma reassured customers that their products are inspected either in the morning or at night before preparation, adding another layer of safety. They source their pigs from various locations, including Cebu, Marinduque, Masbate, Mindoro, Romblon, Quezon province, and Tuguegarao in Cagayan, all of which are currently free from ASF.

The city government has also set up livestock and poultry checkpoints as a precautionary measure following recent ASF outbreaks in other parts of the country. These efforts aim to maintain public confidence in Quezon City’s food supply and prevent the spread of ASF.
