Valenzuela Honors Typhoon Carina Responders

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Valenzuela City government recognized on Monday the frontline responders and rescuers who worked during the onslaught of Typhoon Carina.

During the city’s flag ceremony on Monday, Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian led the distribution of certificates commending the frontline personnel.

Tayo po ay tunay na mapalad na mayroong mga indibidwal na talagang tumulong sa kasagsagan ng bagyo,” Gatchalian said. (We are very fortunate that there are individuals who helped during the height of the typhoon.)

Lubos po ang pasasalamat natin sa ilang mga grupo, unang-una na sa ating rescue team, ang VCDRRMO kung saan higit 150 ang tuloy-tuloy na nag-rescue. Ako rin po ay nagpapasalamat sa Philippine Coast Guard para sa kanilang tulong, sa CSWDO, at sa marami pang iba, dahil handa po kayong ialay ang inyong mga buhay para sa inyong mga kababayan. Taos-puso rin po ang ating pasasalamat sa Liga ng mga Barangay para sa inyong support,” he added. 

(We are very grateful to several groups, first of all to our rescue team, the VCDRRMO where more than 150 continuously conducted rescue operations. I also thank the Philippine Coast Guard for their help, the CSWDO, and many others, because you are ready to sacrifice your lives for your countrymen. We also sincerely thank the Liga ng mga Barangays for your support.)

The recognized departments and groups included the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO), Valenzuela City Liga ng mga Barangay, Valenzuela City Social Welfare and Development Office, Valenzuela City Command and Coordinating Center (VCC3), Philippine Red Cross – Valenzuela City Chapter, and various units of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Commendations were also given to the members of the Valenzuela City Police Station, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Valenzuela City, Bureau of Fire Protection – Valenzuela City, and Philippine Army Reservist.

Mayor Gatchalian expressed the city’s gratitude to the rescue teams, especially the over 150 personnel from the VCDRRMO who conducted continuous rescue operations. 

He also thanked the Philippine Coast Guard, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Liga ng mga Barangays for their support and willingness to sacrifice for the residents.

The local government also provided Certificates of Commendation and financial assistance to two staff members of the Waste Management Office and one from the City Veterinary Office who were injured while performing their duties after the typhoon.
